Brain Tumor Early Symptoms :

Brain tumor can be described as an abnormal and uncontrolled division of cells resulting in the formation of intracranial tumors in the brain or other parts such as cranial nerves, skull, pituitary gland, pineal gland and cranial nerves.

Brain tumors are either benign or might undergo metastasis. There are various types of brain tumors that develop in the brain depending on the origin. These include astrocytomas, pilocytic astrocytoma, glioma, glioblastoma multiforme, medulloblastoma, retinoblastoma, neuroblastoma, germinoma, oligodendroglioma, teratoma and metastatic brain tumors. Brain tumors are one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in the world.

Brain tumors can go undetected for several years. However, brain tumor symptoms usually surface only when the tumor swells abnormally, thus damaging the surrounding tissue. Symptoms can also arise due to formation of hydrocephalus where the flow of cerebrospinal fluid is blocked. Sometimes, these tumors can also be detected accidentally while doing an imaging for an unrelated reason.

Brain tumor symptoms primarily depend on size of the tumor and the location of the tumor. However, the most common symptoms include seizures, epilepsy, fatigue, bowel irregularities, recurring headache, nausea and vomiting. Other significant symptoms include memory loss, impaired concentration, speech and hearing abnormalities, and difficulty in swallowing, increased sleep, paralysis and visual impairment. All these symptoms occur due to increased intracranial pressure and are an indicative of gliomas and glioblastoma multiforme.

Obstruction of CSF occurs due to small tumors. Due to this, symptoms such as herniation of certain parts in the brain, increase in the diameter of the skull and bulging of the fontanelles might occur. Symptoms such as a bilateral temporal visual field defect, hypopituitarism, hyperpituitarism or hyperprolactinemia might be associated with pituitary tumor.
