For people who do not want to use medication, itchiness from contact dermatitis can be relieved by administering a cold moist compress for half an hour three times a day. However, the best way to get relief from itchiness caused by topical dermatitis is to use oral antihistamines, calamine lotion and oatmeal bath.
Remember even after relief measures, if the itchiness continues, it best not to scratch the affected area, otherwise your condition might aggravate. Topical antihistamines help some people while other are prescribed topical corticosteroids. Topical corticosteroids are for people with mild to moderate symptoms and they come either as a cream or ointment.
