Foods to be avoided include offal foods (heart, kidneys, liver, tongue), game meats, red meat, fish roe, mussels, sardines, anchovies, herring, mackerel, scallops and shrimp, mushrooms, peas, spinach, lentils, beans, asparagus, gravy, yeast and sweetbreads. Forms of beverage such as tea, coffee, cocoa and chocolate also fall in the list. Intake of alcohol even in milder forms such beer and wine should also be restricted.

Food that is considered healthy for consumption in cases of gout includes rice, vegetables, cereals, cheese, nuts, seeds, cherries, strawberries, raw fruits and white bread. Apart from eating the right kind of food, lots of water consumption and regular exercising is also said to beneficial in this respect. While high intake of water aids in the elimination of excessive quantity if uric acid in the body via the urinary system; maintaining a healthy exercise regime helps in improvising the general health condition of the patient. Some of the foods that you should avoid might seem difficult to give up, but in the long run it would definitely be worth the sacrifice.
