Mostly the female mosquitoes suck blood from other animals and transmit the most deadly disease, taking lives of millions of people over thousands of years and still killing millions per year by the spread of diseases.
A mosquito can fly for 1 to 4 hours incessantly and almost travelling up to 10 km in a night. Most species are night-time feeders. During the day time, most mosquitoes relax in a cool place and wait for the evenings.
Both male and female mosquitoes are nectar feeders, but only the female species is sucks blood. Females do not need blood for existence, but they do require supplementary substances such as protein and iron to develop eggs.
Mosquitoes transmit disease-causing viruses and parasites from person to person without catching the disease themselves. Female mosquitoes suck blood from people and other animals as part of their eating and breeding practice. When a mosquito bites, they also instill saliva and anti-coagulants into the blood which may also contain disease-causing viruses or other parasites. This practice can be disrupted by killing the mosquitoes, freeing infected people from all mosquitoes while they are infectious or vaccinating the exposed population.
