Medical Research on Muscle Building

Strength, endurance and agility are vital to be a winner. Strength of a person is primarily determined by two factors, which include the muscle mass and the ability of nerves to stimulate muscular contraction.

While neural stimulation could be improved by doing a particular pattern of exercises, muscle mass can be built through undergoing weight training. However, advancements in medical research have now provided better hormones, anabolic steroids medicinal supplements and synthetic drugs that could induce the bodies to build a greater amount of muscle.

Anabolic steroids are used for muscle building. These drugs are synthetic modifications of testosterone. An important advantage of anabolic steroids is that they reduce the amount of muscle tear during a strenuous work-out. They also serve as stress relievers and energy boosters. Anabolic steroids are also used under certain medical complications for preventing muscle loss. However, irrational use of these steroids often has serious side-effects that include infertility, baldness, deeper voice, liver damage, psychiatric disorders and aggressive behaviors. Some common anabolic steroids include dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (Turinabol), metandienone (Dianabol), methyltestosterone (Android), nandrolone (Durabolin), oxandrolone (Oxandrin), oxymetholone (Anadrol) and stanozolol (Winstrol).

Synthetic hormones such as androstenedione are widely marketed with a claim that they increase the body production of testosterone significantly. However, latest medical research has proved that this claim is far from being true.

Another muscle building compound that is widely used as a dietary supplement is creatine. Research has shown that creatine provides energy required in short intervals and also increases the lean muscle mass. Some of the side effects of using creatine include gaining weight, stomach cramps, muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
