Free Medical Research On Weight Loss

Weight loss can be described as a reduction in the total body weight. Weight loss primarily occurs due to loss of body fluids, fat, adipose tissue and total lean mass.

According to medical research, weight loss can be intentional or unintentional. Unintentional weight loss is an indication of a serious medical complication such as diabetes mellitus, HIV/AIDS or hyperthyroidism. Unintentional weight loss is often associated with other symptoms such as excessive thirst, hunger and fatigue.

Intentional weight loss is for the purpose of improving fitness and preserving health. Medical research has proven that overweight and obese individuals are at a greater risk of acquiring diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, heart attack, myocardial infarction, high blood pressure and osteoarthritis. There are various weight loss programs that are clinically proven and often recommended by physicians.

According to ongoing research, the following tips could keep weight off from a human body:

  1. One must avoid taking in excessive calories through slight adjustments in their dietary habits such as - taking multiple meals in small amounts, avoiding drinks like sodas and sugary juices, drinking loads of water, increasing intake of fruits and vegetables, taking diets with high fiber and low carbohydrate content, avoiding fat-rich diets such as ice-creams and cakes.
  2. The best means of losing weight is to have a regular physical exercise regime.
  3. One must start the day with a healthy breakfast.
  4. One should have a regular weight check-up so as to maintain consistency.
  5. One must avoid eating too much of junk foods.

Other means of weight loss include fat removal surgery and use of drugs and supplements that decrease appetite, block fat absorption or reduce stomach volume. Some of these drugs that are clinically prescribed to overweight patients include proactol, xenical, ephedra, phentermine, hoodia, conjugated linoleic acid and chitosan.
