Embryonic-Stem-Cells-And-Spinal-Cord-Injury      Spinal cord injury leads to the loss of message control processes such as touch, sensation, muscular movement, bladder control and sexual functions. In an event of an injury to the spinal cord, the electrical nerves hinder the movement of messages to and from the brain. Because of this, the substance that coats the nerves gets destroyed leading to cellular damage to the neurons and the electrical short circuit, and thereby obstructing the electrical signal from being received by the brain. Curing Diabetes With Stem Cells

The stem cell treatment is based on the principle of treating the root source of any disease or disorder. Diabetes is known to occur because of destruction of beta cells that are produced by the pancreas which are the producers of insulin. The focus of stem cell treatment for treating type 1 diabetes is to fight the body’s immune system thereby enabling production of more beta cells to enhance the insulin production.

A recent research carried out on twenty-three patients suffering from type 1 diabetes age varying from 13 to 31 years showed remarkable results. More than half of them did not require insulin injection assistance for at least more than a year. Beta cells showed improvements in production of insulin. Almost 6 percent of patients did not require insulin injection for at least 3 years, and 0.5 percent of patients even exceeded four years.

In the stem cell therapy, initially he patients are administered with few drugs which enhance the production of blood stem cells. These blood cells are extracted out from the body and are frozen for further use. Patients are then given some extremely toxic drugs to suppress the immune cells of the body. The frozen blood cells are then injected back into the body of the patient. However, this therapy is more applicable for patients having type1 diabetes. In those cases, where the patients come with insulin resistance, the cure is not possible with this therapy because the conditions of the beta cells are present in critical state in such patients.
