Basic And Cardiology

Cardiology is the branch of medical science that deals with the study of functioning, disorders and treatment of the heart. Heart is the muscular pump that supplies blood to every component of the body which in turn provides oxygen to entire parts of the body. The heart is made of upper auricle which divides into right and left auricle and lower ventricle which in turn, divided into right ventricle and left ventricle.

The right auricle empties their impure blood into right ventricles that are received from the body by means of inferior vena cava, superior vena cava and coronary sinus. The right ventricle in turn transfers its content to lungs where the impure blood gets purified. The left auricle receives pure blood from the lungs and drains into left ventricles that supplies pure blood to the rest of the part of body through aorta, the largest artery.

In case of any blockage in the coronary arteries that supplies pure blood to the heart, the heart does not receive requisite amount of oxygen. The heart overworks to meet the required amount of oxygen which in turn results in demand for oxygen in myocardium, the tissue of the heart. Continuous overworking of the heart leads to major cardiovascular ailments like cardiac arrest, heart failure, heart attack, etc.

It is seen that there is an alteration in the heart beat when heart overworks. When the heart beats slower than the normal phase, then it is called as bradycardia and if it beats faster, then it is called as tachycardia respectively. These abnormalities can be rectified or minimized greatly by means of other aids like artificial pacemaker, implantable cadioverter defibrillator, and implantable hemodynamic monitors.
